Total Body TEC
EMS for strength and fitness
Whole-body EMS training in a wireless miha bodytec suit. Twenty minutes, once a week, one-to-one with Gerard in Leixlip.
The basics
How EMS training works
You wear a wireless miha bodytec suit while you do simple exercises. Small electrical impulses make your muscles contract harder than they would on their own, so the big muscle groups in your legs, glutes, core, back, chest and arms all work at the same time.
Every exercise has a short rest of about four seconds, and those rests get shorter as your body gets used to it. After the session your muscles need 48 hours to recover, which is why once a week is enough.
Because so many muscles work together, twenty minutes of EMS is often compared to around 90 minutes of conventional gym work. Gerard has trained clients one-to-one with EMS for eleven years, and some of them are 75 and over.
Total Body TEC
Who it suits
Busy people
If an hour in the gym never happens, twenty minutes a week can.
People who avoid the gym
No heavy weights, so people told to go easy because of their back or sciatica often find it manageable. Check with your GP first.
Runners
Impulses reach more muscle fibres than normal training, which helps build the strength behind every stride.
Staying strong as you age
Muscle fades with age. EMS keeps building it without loading your joints.
Toning and shape
Whole-body strength work once a week, alongside sensible eating.
Always supervised
Every session is one-to-one with Gerard, paced to you from the first minute.

Questions
Good to know
Is it 20 minutes of non-stop electricity?
No. Each impulse lasts a few seconds while you move, then there is a rest of about four seconds. The rests get shorter as you get used to it.
How often do I need to come?
Once a week. Your muscles need about 48 hours to recover after a session.
Is EMS safe for me?
For most healthy adults, yes, and every session is supervised. EMS is not suitable if you have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, are pregnant, have epilepsy, or have had recent surgery or an acute illness. If you are unsure, check with your GP first.
What do I wear?
A fitted EMS training garment under the wireless suit. It is bought separately, and Gerard will sort it with you.
