Golfers with back pain

Protect your back. Keep swinging.

Every swing twists and loads your lower back. When the hips and core are weak, the back does work it was never built for. EMS strengthens the muscles around your spine without putting heavy weights on it.

Why it matters

Why it matters

Your back takes the strain

If the glutes and core aren't pulling their weight, the lower back makes up the difference, swing after swing.

No spinal loading

EMS builds strength without a barbell on your back. Every impulse is set to what your body can handle that day.

Backed by research

In people with chronic low back pain, EMS reduced pain about as well as a recognised back-strengthening programme, in far less time.

How EMS helps

What you get

  • Strengthens the deep core and back muscles that support your spine
  • No heavy weights and no impact on your joints
  • Suits ongoing, non-specific low back pain
  • Suits golfers returning after a lay-off or dealing with sciatica, with your GP's or physio's OK

Important

EMS is exercise, not a cure. If you have a new injury, a disc problem or severe pain, talk to your GP or physio first. In the golf study, back pain moved in the right direction but the change was not big enough to be certain.

How a session works

Twenty minutes. Every muscle.

  1. Free chat and health check

We go through your game, your goals and a short health questionnaire so we know EMS is safe for you.

  2. Suit up

No heavy weights, no machines. You change into the miha suit and the wireless MOVE unit clips on.

  3. 20 minutes of golf moves

Squats, lunges, hip hinges and rotations, all with the impulse. Gerard sets and watches every one.

  4. 48 hours to recover

Your muscles rebuild over the next two days. Then you play, practise, and come back next week.

Questions

Good to know

Can I do EMS with a bad back?

Many people with ongoing, non-specific low back pain train with EMS, and research shows it can reduce that kind of pain about as well as standard back exercise. If you have a new injury, a disc problem or severe pain, check with your GP or physio first.

Will it make my back worse?

We start gently and set the intensity for each muscle group separately. Tell Gerard how it feels; if anything is sharp or wrong, the session stops or changes straight away.
